The Lost Pubs of Halliwell
There are two websites which have information about pubs in Bolton that have closed over the years.
One is a national project ( Lost Pubs In Bolton, Lancashire ) which is arranged in alphabetical order, but with little detail apart from the address and some photos.
The other is a blog ( Lost Pubs Of Bolton ) with very detailed information about the history of each pub. Unfortunately, the pubs are not done alphabetically. However, there is a search box at the top of the page that you can enter the name of a particular pub. The last blog entry was January 2022, so it will not have any pubs that have closed since then.
As a taster, these are pubs listed as being on Halliwell Road:
Lost Pubs Of Bolton: New Inn, 34 Halliwell Road
(The article states that the New Inn “was either the last pub on the ‘Halliwell Mile,’ (or first depending on where you started) a crawl of the dozen or so pubs that once ran the length of the road. A footnote then added “For the record the others were: Black Dog, Pedro’s, Derby, Belle Vue, Lamb, Robin Hood, Lord Raglan, Peel, Crofters, Fox and Stork (or Stork and Fox) and The Ainsworth Arms.”
Lost Pubs Of Bolton: Derby Hotel (Sharman Arms), 218 Halliwell Road, Bolton
Lost Pubs Of Bolton: Belle Vue, 242 Halliwell Road
Robin Hood, Bolton at 372 Halliwell Road does not have any entry on the local blog, only on the national project.
