Glorious sunshine brought out the crowds for Bolton’s Rose Queen parade in July 1990. There were 18 beautifully-dressed queens and their retinues from Bolton and surrounding districts who walked around the town centre finishing at the Bolton Town Hall where sea cadets formed a special guard of honour.

A record more than £1,000 was collected for charity and extra money was made from the town centre’s charity canopy which no longer exists of course. Parade organiser Mr Frank Morlidge was delighted. Sightseers had the added bonus of seeing Miss Bolton, Lindsay Jayne True, who joined the parade.

The winning rose queen was again from St Thomas, Halliwell, and she was Julia Larkin. In second place was Michelle Cartwright from All Saints, Farnworth and Carol Pardon from St James, Breightmet, took the third spot. President of the Bolton Branch of Mencap, Mr Donald Clarke, presented a shield and prize to the winning queen and prizes to every participant.
