Two new books have been published this month. Alan Simpson’s “A Matchsticks Journey” recalls a childhood memory of launching a matchstick into a tributary of the Dean Brook above Barrow Bridge and imagining its journey through brooks, rivers and canal to the sea. Alan has revisited this route and details the history of the course in terms of people and places.
In a second work Alan has compiled a collection of ten stories originally written for the Society’s Magazine “The Little Piecer” by Bert Jones. Bert was a stalwart of the society and contributed more articles than anyone over its thirty year history. This is a collection ideal for anyone interested in local history. Bert was a mine of information and shows his expertise over a wide range of topics.
